Viking™ Core Bits

The VIKING family includes matrices that cover an extremely wide range of ground conditions. The core bits perform extremely well in formations that vary between hard and soft, consolidated and broken, abrasive and non-abrasive. This makes them the perfect choice for frequently changing conditions as well as a safe choice for new projects where the geology may not be known. Most of matrices within this family are available with higher crown configurations, which provides long bit life. All matrices are manufactured with the highest quality diamonds and alloys using extremely well controlled manufacturing process to ensure sustained quality.

SHRED

The SHRED is a tough core bit that is ideal for use in extremely broken and/or abrasive ground. It is a very popular choice for applications where triple tube core barrels are necessary due to core recovery challenges.

  • Excels in ground conditions from 3 to 5.5 on Mohs scale
  • Commonly used with deep lateral or face discharge crown profiles

AZURE

This popular matrix has an excellent ability to cut hard rock well while withstanding the very tough conditions that occur when ground is broken and abrasive. To provide suitability for a variety of drilling projects, this matrix is available with any crown configuration.

  • Ideal for ground conditions between 4.5 and 7 on Mohs scale
  • Available in crown height configurations from 10mm up to 26mm

KUBY
With a similar matrix composition to the AZURE, the KUBY is a popular choice for harder formations. Available in all crown configurations, it is suitable for a wide variety of drilling projects.

  • A good choice for rock hardness between 5.5 and 7.5 on Mohs scale
  • Available in crown height configurations from 10mm up to 26mm

LAVA
The LAVA is an excellent core bit for hard to very hard formations where efficient cutting is a challenge. It features a soft matrix with fine diamonds. This is the matrix where a higher crown makes perfect sense if the ground formation is competent and not too abrasive.

  • Ideal for rock hardness from 7 to 8.5 on Mohs scale
  • Available in higher crown configurations.

FERRO
With its specialized matrix, the FERRO works well with medium to hard ground but this core bit excels when used in iron ore formations that are abrasive and broken. It provides exceptional life span in this challenging application.

  • Excellent for ground hardness from 4 to 6.5 on Mohs scale
  • Provides excellent bit life in iron ore formations

KRAKEN
KRAKEN is the last fighter standing. When facing impossibly tough conditions such as extremely hard ground, this matrix delivers.

  • Excellent for ground hardness from 7.5 and more on Mohs scale

We are happy to announce that as of August 2, 2021, all Canadian Fordia offices will be making drill rigs available to their customers. In an earlier blog this year, we announced that drill rigs would be available for sale in the USA and that proved to be successful, so Canada will now join the USA in adding drill rigs to their portfolio of drilling equipment for the mineral exploration industry.

The mineral exploration industry has seen a lot of change in the last few years. One of the most common challenges is finding employees. Between the cyclic nature of the industry and the recent pandemic, many experienced drillers have left and replacing them has been difficult for many companies.

At the beginning of the year, we decided to update our popular eGuides so our customers would have the latest and greatest information. We started with our most popular guide on choosing the right core bit and are now in the process of taking each guide and updating its information to represent the many changes that have occurred over the last few years.

Customer service is our priority.
