The holidays have arrived and many of us will have some time to celebrate with friends and family. Whether you’ve had a rough time dealing with core washout, or drilling in sandy conditions, the holiday period is a time to put those thoughts away and relax and enjoy some good food and drink.
Our readers enjoyed our previous cocktail suggestions so back by popular demand we are offering a new batch of cocktail recipes for diamond drillers to share with family and friends.
Holy Deviation
This is what you drink while you’re praying your next bore hole doesn’t deviate. Steep a bag of Earl Grey tea in 8 oz. of boiling water with one cinnamon stick in a large cup. Add 2 oz. dry gin, 1 oz. lemon liqueur, 1 tsp of honey and stir. Garnish with a lemon slice.
Big Rig
In a large glass, mix ½ cup or tomato juice with 1 1/2 oz. of gin, 1/4 cup orange juice, 1/4 cup beer, one shot of hot sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Add ice. Thread a toothpick with a slice of cooked, crisp bacon, cocktail onion and small pickle and serve with the drink.
Push and pull
Combine 1 1/2 oz. of Canadian whisky with 2 oz. of pineapple juice, 1 oz. orange juice, and 2 oz. of cranberry juice. Serve with a piece of pineapple.
Coba Libre
This cocktail is similar to its cousin the Cuba Libre but drillers use Spiced rum mixed with cola and a squirt of lime juice. Serve it with a lime wedge.
Dog Leg
Muddle 6 fresh mint leaves in the bottom of a glass. Add ice cubes, ¾ oz. bourbon, 3/4 oz. Grand Marnier, juice of ½ lime, 2 oz. peach juice, 2 oz. chilled tonic water and stir. Serve with fresh peach wedges.
Mighty Matrix
This is a mighty cool looking cocktail. In a tall glass, mix 4 oz. of stout beer with 1 oz. of whiskey and 4 oz. of red cranberry juice. Add ice cubes and a cherry on top.
WOB (White on bit)
Combine 2 oz. of marula cream liqueur with 2 oz. cup vanilla flavoured vodka, and 1 oz. cream. Shake and pour into a martini glass, drizzle with chocolate syrup.
Parameter Punch
You have to be pretty exact with parameters when drilling but you can play around with the quantities in this recipe to suit your taste. In a large punch bowl, combine 12 oz. of tequila with 12 oz. light beer, 12 oz. frozen lemonade, 12 oz. water, juice form 1 lime, ice cubes and slices from one lemon. Stir and enjoy.
Muddy Mohs
Certain kinds of mud are best enjoyed cold. Combine 1 oz. Irish cream liqueur with 1/2 oz. cinnamon liqueur and 2 oz. chilled coffee. Add ice cubes and top off with whipped cream and a few bittersweet chocolate shavings.
One-trip Sip
In a tall glass, combine 3 oz. Crème de Cassis with 12 oz. chilled apple cider and add 8 oz. chilled sparkling water. Add 4 sprigs rosemary and an apple wedge.
As always, if you plan on indulging, remember to drink responsibly and never drink and drive.
