PDAC 2019: New Faces and New Products

posted by Rod McCoremick, Blog author, Fordia Powered by Epiroc

March 4, 2019

I don’t always talk about upcoming tradeshows but the PDAC is a big one and this year’s will be different for us. For those who may not know, the PDAC is the largest tradeshow for the mineral exploration and mining industry and is expected to attract more than 20,000 attendees. It is taking place in Toronto from March 3-6, 2019

For Fordia, it is the first event since we were acquired by Epiroc that we will be attending together with Epiroc. Most of us in the mineral exploration business know that Epiroc is a large, Swedish-based company serving the mining and infrastructure industries. With their acquisition of Fordia, they will be able to better focus on the mineral exploration sector. Where we were once competitors, we are now joining forces to bring a broader product offering to customers. We will be combining our booths at the show with a corporate booth focused on customer relationships and another booth focusing on innovation.

So what should you expect to see? At every PDAC, we take the opportunity to launch a few new products, and this year will be no different. We will belaunching our L-Latch head assembly for underground drilling. The L-Latch assembly provides an extra option to drillers who are familiar with a link style latch system. The Hero 5 Abrasive that was launched earlier this year will also be featured.

We are also launching the new Hero 13 core bit, a bit that was developed for drilling in the hardest ground, like calcite, quartzite and taconite which are about 7 to 8 on the Mohs scale. It’s a freer cutting core bit and will stay sharp without the need for heavy bit pressure or water flow reduction. We’ve had some excellent results in testing with this new bit. Our colleagues at Epiroc will also be launching some great new products like the DiscovOre head assembly, and the RC45 HD hammer.

If you’re attending this year’s PDAC, you should drop by both booth #723 and 322 to meet both teams. You can learn about the new products and new ones planned for release shortly. There will be the usual VIP cocktail this year on Tuesday, March 5 and that’s an event you don’t want to miss. I won’t be attending the event but my colleagues from technical support will be there and eager to talk with you all.
