Back to the Basics of Core Drilling

The mineral exploration industry has seen a lot of change in the last few years. One of the most common challenges is finding employees. Between the cyclic nature of the industry and the recent pandemic, many experienced drillers have left and replacing them has been difficult for many companies. With so many newcomers to the world of diamond drilling, going back to the basics to make sure everyone understands core drilling is a great idea. Some of our previous blogs have passed along basic information, along with acronyms, glossary of terms and information about geology.

Many people are more visual and appreciate being able to watch a video, so we will be presenting a series of eight informational videos over the next few months. Each will tackle a small part of core drilling world, from what it is, to common equipment used in the process. Our first video describes the purpose of core drilling, how it is done, the most common applications and the role of geologists and engineers in the process.  It is simple, easy to understand and provides a lot of visuals to demonstrate the mechanics involved.  I invite you to take a look.

What is core drilling?
