HEROTM Abrasive Core Bits

Certain ground conditions can be difficult for drillers, so customized drilling equipment and tools are the key to improving drilling performance. The HERO™ Abrasive series was developed to address the challenges of drilling in abrasive rock types. This line arises from the very popular HERO™ series, introduced in 2008 and renowned for its excellent penetration/lifetime ratio. The line’s Abrasive version gives you the same benefits in a new variety of grounds.

This specialized line features core bits with redesigned components that provide increased resistance to abrasion. Their reinforced diameter helps preserve the internal and external diameters. When used with a recommended drilling additive program, drilling performance in abrasive ground is optimized.

The series includes four hardness levels (5, 7, 9 and 11) covering a range from medium hard abrasive ground (between 5.0 and 6.5 on Mohs scale) to very hard abrasive ground such as iron ore (6 to 7.5 on Mohs scale)..

HERO 5 Abrasive

The HERO 5 Abrasive matrix is suitable for a wide variety of grounds and can withstand very abrasive rock formations. Like other core bits in the Hero Abrasive line, it offers excellent reliability, versatility and the same excellent penetration/lifetime ratio as the popular Hero line of core bits. The Hero 5 Abrasive provides consistent cutting ability in changing ground conditions.

  • Ideal for ground conditions with a high level of variability
  • Works best in soft to medium hard abrasive grounds (between 4 and 6 on Mohs scale)
  • 13 mm standard diamond height, also available in 16 mm

HERO 7 Abrasive

The HERO 7 Abrasive matrix is an ideal choice for a wide variety of grounds and will withstand the most abrasive rock formations. It is an all-purpose product that offers great reliability and versatility. It provides the same excellent penetration/lifetime ratio as the popular HERO line of core bits.

  • Ideal for abrasive rock formations containing different hardness levels
  • Optimizes performance in medium hard to very hard abrasive grounds (between 5.0 and 6.5 on Mohs scale).
  • 13 mm standard diamond height, also available in 16 mm and 26 mm Vulcan

HERO 9 Abrasive

Specifically developed to withstand highly abrasive rock formations, the HERO 9 Abrasive matrix is an excellent choice, especially in iron ore. These ground conditions are perfect for keeping this winner sharp in even the toughest areas.

  • An excellent choice for abrasive rock formations that include high iron ore content
  • Optimizes performance in hard to very hard abrasive ground (between 6.0 and 7.5 on Mohs scale).
  • 13 mm standard diamond height, also available in 16 mm and 26 mm Vulcan

HERO 11 Abrasive

The HERO 11 Abrasive is a long lasting and free cutting core bit. It features a special, softer matrix that allows the diamonds to come into contact with the ground very quickly for quicker penetration.

  • To optimize its penetration rate and lifespan, regular sharpening with a high pressure feed is recommended.
  • Optimizes performance in very hard to extremely hard abrasive ground (between 6.5 and 7.5 on Mohs scale)
  • 13 mm standard diamond height, also available in 16 mm and 26 mm Vulcan

We are happy to announce that as of August 2, 2021, all Canadian Fordia offices will be making drill rigs available to their customers. In an earlier blog this year, we announced that drill rigs would be available for sale in the USA and that proved to be successful, so Canada will now join the USA in adding drill rigs to their portfolio of drilling equipment for the mineral exploration industry.

The mineral exploration industry has seen a lot of change in the last few years. One of the most common challenges is finding employees. Between the cyclic nature of the industry and the recent pandemic, many experienced drillers have left and replacing them has been difficult for many companies.

At the beginning of the year, we decided to update our popular eGuides so our customers would have the latest and greatest information. We started with our most popular guide on choosing the right core bit and are now in the process of taking each guide and updating its information to represent the many changes that have occurred over the last few years.

Customer service is our priority.
